As well as our regular gallery opening, we also organise events throughout the year – especially ‘Arty Bazaars’ where we invite a wide range of stall holders  to set up shop outside the gallery and studios.  We like to keep the mix changing, but expect to see other artists, vintage, excellent coffee and food, and usually some live music…  These Events are also on our Facebook page.

We have also started running short courses and workshops at the Sandyhill site opposite Corfe Castle railway station where we are based.  You can reach us on foot across the bridge at the station – but don’t forget we have our own parking for visitors.

You can keep up to date by ‘liking’ our FB page – or by subscribing to our email newsletter.

Photographing Artwork for Publicity - 2D

November 26, 2017, 10:00am - November 26, 2017, 4:00pm

Boilerhouse Gallery
Sandy Hill Lane
Corfe Castle,  BH20 5JF Map

DAW and PAW registration is upon us… If you are looking at images of your work and wishing they were better, this workshop may just be in time. The day long session (Nb - two different workshops for 2D and 3D work) covers the basics of getting the most out of your digital camera as well as practical tips for creating good quality images for web and print publicity with a minimum of equipment, and much of that DIY. You should be able to walk away with images of a couple of pieces of your work too.

Workshop covers core camera skills, including White Balance, Managing Exposure, and understanding the relationship between pixels and reproduction, and a practical session allowing you to get the best of whatever equipment you have and some very simple lighting tricks. Suitable for pretty much any kind of digital camera from compact to DSLR. The 3D workshop will develop ideas around lighting, background, managing focus, etc.

You will need to bring your own camera and a couple of pieces of work to practice on - workshop is restricted to 6 students, so there should be time to shoot some of your work for real in the afternoon. It would be useful to know what you plan to bring - media and size, etc. If you have a tripod, bring it - otherwise I will have a couple available. £55 10-4.

Flash Photography - a Boilerhouse Gallery workshop

Flash Photography - a Boilerhouse Gallery workshop

October 14, 2017, 10:00am - October 14, 2017, 1:00pm

Boilerhouse Gallery
Sandy Hill Lane
Corfe Castle,  BH20 5JF Map

Join local photographer and teacher Richard Jeffery for a half day workshop in managing flash, both on and off camera. The three hour class will cover equipment and practical techniques and suggestions, and is suitable for those with DSLRs and intermediate skills or above (a resonable understanding of managing expsoure using ISO, aperture and shutter speed) - and one or more external flash guns. Part theory part practice, set in the grounds around the Boilerhouse Gallery at Sandy Hill Studios in Corfe Castle, with a maximum of 6 students (minimum of 2 to run the workshop). We can work under cover if needed, so the workshop will run whatever the weather.

I do have a couple of Nikon and Metz flash guns to try if you don't have one yourself, so the workshop might be useful if you are thinking of taking the plunge and investing in some mobile light. This workshop would be an excellent complement to the Introduction to Studio Lighting workshops I am running in September - email for details.

Cost £55 per student, payable on booking. Cancellations will be accepted up to 10 days before the workshop, and of course all fees will be refunded if the course is cancelled. Please email to book your place - richard@richardjeffery.com - or for the course information sheet.

If enough people are interested, the morning can be extended to a practical shoot nearby, either around Corfe, Studland or along the coast, to put acquired skills into practice. Additional cost £15 per student, minimum 3, and you will need your own transport.

Please dress appropriately for a British autumn... You might want to bring water and a snack, although tea and coffee will be provided in the morning. There is a good bakery in the village with sandwiches, etc - 3 minutes from the gallery.

Two Day Raku Workshop - Day Two

Two Day Raku Workshop - Day Two

October 8, 2017, 10:00am - October 8, 2017, 4:00pm

Boilerhouse Gallery
Sandy Hill Lane
Corfe Castle,  BH20 5JF Map

Join local ceramic artists Jayne Cunliffe and Richard Jeffery in a two day raku workshop that uses a variety of handbuilding techniques to take you from raw clay to finished, fired, glazed work ready for you to take home.

This fun workshop at the Boilerhouse Gallery in Corfe Castle is suitable for absolute beginners, or for those with some ceramics experience who want to see the raku process through from start to finish.

Day One - 24/9/17
Make a number of pieces using two main hand building techniques: slab building (making work from flat slabs of clay, rolled out like pastry) and coiling - an ancient technique allowing you to build up simple or complex shapes by adding strips of clay.

At the end of this session, we dry and biscuit fire your work to make it strong enough for glazing and raku firing.

Day Two - 8/10/17
Help prepare and mix a variety of glazes to decorate your work in whichever way you choose. Apply glazes to your work and help fire it in a raku kiln.

The raku firing is the culmination of this workshop - helping load the kiln, smoking and washing your beautiful pots (!) ready to take home..

Two days £55 plus £10 materials and kiln costs per person, payable on booking. Message the gallery, or email hello@jaynecunliffepottery.co.uk to book or for more information.

Introduction to Cyanotype - a Boilerhouse Gallery Workshop

August 26, 2017, 10:00am - August 26, 2017, 1:00pm

Boilerhouse Gallery
Sandy Hill Lane
Corfe Castle,  BH20 5JF Map

Join local photographer and artist Richard Jeffery to learn about the Cyanotype process and how to make your own sunprints: ‘one of a kind’ photograms on light sensitive paper using a technique from the very beginnings of photography.

£25 per participant - max 8 places.
Pay on the day but you will need to book your place with Richard:
richard@theeleventhhour.co.uk or
07767 767625

Come ready to explore the Sandy Hill Studios site around the Boilerhouse Gallery - it can be wet underfoot in places.
We will make images from botanical specimens and other found items. You can expect to expose and develop 3-4 images ready to take home. Prints will still be wet, so a clean bin bag would be useful.

Suitable for all ages, but children must be accompanied by an adult. Workshop is outside, so is weather dependent to some degree.
